Hugh Jackman on ‘Wolverine’ director search: ‘We won’t settle’

Hugh Jackman won’t be playing Wolverine as soon as he wanted, so he’s breaking into song while he looks for a new director.

Darren Aronofsky, who was scheduled to direct Jackman this summer in 20th Century Fox’s “The Wolverine,” backed out of the project this month. “He would have made a great film,” Jackman said in an interview Tuesday in Las Vegas, where he was promoting “Real Steel” at the annual theater owners gathering called CinemaCon. “But it wasn’t the right time for him personally.”

Jackman said the start of photography should only be delayed a matter of weeks. But the film also could need to change its production location, as it was originally set to be shot in Japan, which is still recovering from its catastrophic earthquake. “That’s in limbo as well,” Jackman said of shooting there. “Who knows what the situation is on the ground?”  All of it adds up to a crushing setback for Jackman, who in February was telling fans that “the planets were finally aligned” to make a great film about the most famous Marvel Comics character created in the last 40 years.

With the launch of production pushed back — “All we need to do is find a new director, but we won’t settle for anyone who isn’t as good as Darren,” Jackman said — the Australian actor has backed off his intense physical training for the film just a bit while he exercises another muscle: his vocal cords. He will star in a one-man show at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre May 3-15. “I’ve wanted to do it for a long time,” said Jackman, who is no stranger to singing and dancing, having performed in the Broadway productions of “The Boy From Oz” and “Oklahoma!”

Manny Pacquio and Floyd Mayweather Jr: Who Is Ducking Who in Boxing Dream Match?

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have completely no problem fighting.

As long as it is in the media, in the court room, or in a war of words. 

Neither appears to have any longing whatsoever to actually admit a fight against the other inside the ring.

Mayweather Jr. says that Pacquiao must be using steroids, as he will not consent to the type of drug test that Mayweather Jr. wants in the contract. Pacquiao says that he is deathly afraid of needles and cannot submit to a test two weeks prior to their match.

Apparently, there is more to that story, and we may never find out who is actually who in what would be the ultimate boxing dream match.

But everyone has their own opinion.

Gina L. Caliboso of Ringside Report says that "Mayweather, JR., had been so adamant in his accusations of Pacquiao’s steroid use, etc etc. , he pushed, he talked, he bullied, until finally, his rants (but not on the level of Charlie Sheen), came to be just that – rants."

But that is his game. That is how Mayweather Jr. operates. I see no problem with this method, and eventually, he may get his wish.

But does he really want this fight to take place?

The great Irish poet Oscar Wilde said that "There are two great tragedies in life. One is not getting what you want. The other is getting it."

I'm not sure in the end that is more afraid to fight who in this back and forth battle. They are two of the top fighters in boxing history. While many feel that Pacquiao would be the heavy favorite, I feel as if this would be a closer fight than most think. Although, it is still a fight that Pacquiao would likely win.

Brock Lesnar: Is Lesnar Telling the Truth About a Future Return to WWE?

Brock Lesnar is telling anyone who will listen that he is committed to MMA and the UFC, despite the continuous rumors that a return to the WWE is imminent.

This is all basically still coming off of the heels of Lesnar's 'run-in' with the Undertaker following his last fight in the cage. After a bit of a stare down, it was anticipated that the two would meet in the ring once again, possibly at Wrestlemania 27 on Sunday.

Well, you can cross those odds off of every list, because the Undertaker will be wrestling against Triple H and Lesnar is a trainer on The Ultimate Fighter as he prepares for his June 11th fight against Junior Dos Santos.

The bottom line is that Lesnar could return to the WWE one day down the road. But fans should not expect that day to come any time soon.

He is still a force to be reckoned with inside the cage, and everyone has taken notice. Even UFC President, Dana White.

Mark Wayne reported that the Seattle Times was told by White that "I don't think people give him enough credit for how good he really is and what he has accomplished."

White answered that Lesnar was the most underrated competitor in the UFC today. With that being said, and a rematch for the UFC Heavyweight Championship looming on the horizon if Lesnar can defeat Dos Santos, there is no reason for him to leave any time soon.

As of now, Lesnar has to fight one or two times per year. A return to the WWE could increase that number into the triple digit range.

Do the math, folks. Lesnar is not leaving the UFC now, or in the foreseeable future.

MARIAH Carey being hurried to hospital was a “nerve-wracking” experience for husband Nick Cannon.
The 30-year-old actor explained when the singer  who is expecting twins, a boy and a girl, in the next few weeks  was taken to hospital with signs of early contractions over the weekend, he was very worried.
“They’re calling it a ’scare’, but really, it was just nerve-wracking. We were in the hospital from 4 a.m. until I don’t even know,” Nick told the Los Angeless Times.
“The thing with twins is that you want them in their natural incubator as long as possible. They might be ready to come out, but we need them to stay in for a while.”
Despite the 42-year-old star being given the all-clear by medical experts, Nick admitted she is “super ready” to welcome her babies into the world.
“She’s super ready,” he said.
The actor-and-comedian newly confessed he is concerned he may faint when Mariah eventually gives birth.
Writing on his Twitter page, Nick joked, “I am probably going to faint in the delivery room! I need to man up!
“Or maybe I should say WOMAN UP since they are the ones that have to be the strongest in the whole ordeal! I am in awe of my wife!
“People are trying to give me advice for when that day comes. I’m trying to prepare but I get queasy in hospitals LOL. (sic)”

While Katy Perry's "California Dreams" tour doesn't hit the U.S. until June, a new video posted on her official YouTube chronicles the singer's tour rehearsals at the Forum in Los Angeles. Watch below -- or as Perry says in the clip, "let's go watch some lasers and stuff."

Lindsay Lohan cleared in rehab fight probe

Lindsay Lohan has one less legal problem to worry about after a prosecutor decided not to charge her in connection with an altercation while she was in a substance abuse rehab program in December.

Lohan, who faces a preliminary hearing on a felony grand theft charge April 22, could also go back to jail on a probation violation charge on the same day.

But the Riverside County, California, district attorney decided Tuesday not to pursue a possible assault charge against the actress for a December 12, 2010, incident with Dawn Holland, a Betty Ford Center staffer, the prosecutor's spokesman said.

"Our office has completed review of the case, and we will not file charges due to insufficient evidence," spokesman John Hall said.

Lohan checked herself into the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, for substance abuse rehab on September 28, 2010, just days after she dodged jail on another probation violation.

A Los Angeles County judge later ordered her to remain in the drug rehab program until January 3 for failing a drug test while on supervised probation for a 2007 drunken-driving charge.

An incident three weeks after she was released from rehab led to her latest legal problems. She allegedly walked out of a Venice, California, jewelry store wearing a necklace that she had not paid for, according to police.

Lohan rejected a plea deal last week, setting the stage for next month's preliminary hearing and a possible trial.

Power company says smoke spotted at another Japanese nuclear plant

 Smoke was spotted at another nuclear plant in northeastern Japan on Wednesday, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said.

The company said smoke was detected in the turbine building of reactor No. 1 at the Fukushima Daini nuclear power plant around 6 p.m. (5 a.m. ET).

Smoke could no longer be seen by around 7 p.m. (6 a.m. ET), a company spokesman told reporters.

The Fukushima Daini nuclear power plant is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, where workers have been scrambling to stave off a meltdown since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami knocked out cooling systems there.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. owns both plants.

After the dual disasters, Japanese authorities also detected cooling-system problems at the Fukushima Daini plant, and those living within a 10-kilometer radius (6 miles) of Fukushima Daini were ordered to evacuate as a precaution.

But since then, officials have not expressed any concerns about possible meltdowns there.

Earlier Wednesday, the Japanese Atomic Industrial Forum, a trade group, said cooling functions were recovered and all the plant's four reactors were in cold shutdown.

Police: Body of Ohio missing mother may have been found

Authorities in Ohio say they may have found the body of Summer Inman, a 25-year-old mother who was reported abducted last week.

Police in the southeastern Ohio city of Logan have scheduled a Wednesday morning news conference where they are expected to release more information about the case.

"Tonight, the investigation into the kidnapping of Summer Inman has taken a sad turn, as investigators may have located Summer's body just off U.S. 33," the Logan Police Department said in a statement released Tuesday night.

Inman's abduction and the arrests connected to her case have made national news recently.

Inman, a mother of three, was working as part of a cleaning crew at a local bank on March 22, police said. When she stepped outside, she was grabbed and forced into a white vehicle.

Days later, police announced that they arrested her estranged husband William Inman Jr.; her father-in-law William Inman Sr.; and her mother-in-law, Sandra Inman.

The three face kidnapping charges, police said.

Summer Inman and William Inman Jr. were married in 2004, but the couple was separated, CNN affiliate WBNS reported.

Summer Inman had also filed for divorce and claimed in court documents that her husband had threatened to kill her if she took his children away, the affiliate reported.

Katy Perry picks Zowie for NZ shows

Pop singer Katy Perry has invited Auckland electro-pop artist Zowie to open her shows in New Zealand and Australia.

Zoe "Zowie" Fleury and band have just returned from Austin's SXSW music festival where they met with a lot of praise by critics and fans.

"Zowie delivered a powerful performance, playing a set of songs that neatly balanced between edgy electronica and sweeping girl-power rock," the Grammy blog wrote.

The singer was also named by US celebrity blogger Perez Hilton as one of the top five artists to watch in 2011 after posting her first single 'Broken Machine' on his website late last year.

Zowie, formerly known as Bionic Pixie, had a NZ top 10 hit with 'Broken Machine' and is planning to release her debut album in a few months.

Following the success of her album Teenage Dream, Katy Perry will perform in New Zealand for the first time. She is set to play two shows in Auckland, on May 7 and 8, and one in Wellington on May 10.

Justin Timberlake To Be Honored at Kids' Choice Awards

 

Nickelodeon is honoring Justin Timberlake for more than his burping

The musician-turned-actor will receive the big help award on Saturday at the Kids' Choice Awards in L.A. for his charitable and environmental efforts.PEOPLE announces exclusively.

"I was inspired at a young age by my parents and family to do everything possible to give back to the world around us," Timberlake, 30, says in a statement. "And it has become a mission of mine to help kids of all ages understand the importance of getting involved in their communities and local charities and doing their part to preserve the planet."

Timberlake has been a dedicated supporter of Shriners Hospitals for Children since 2008, and he hosts an annual PGA golf tournament with a week-long series of events that raises money for programs and services benefiting children in need. He also opened the environmentally friendly Mirimichi Golf Course in Millington, Tennessee, which helps the surrounding wildlife habitat and uses less water.

Aside from being a two-time burp award champion, Timberlake has also received two blimps from the Kids' Choice Awards. And he hosted the show in 2007.
